Crochet Miss Elaina – Appliqué

 

Size:

5.5 inches (14 cm)

 

Material:

  • Yarn calling for 5,5 mm hook in: dark pink, yellow, light pink, brown and black
  • A very small amount of pearl cotton in black and brown (for the eyebrows and the mouth)
  • Size 3.5 mm crochet hook (you can use a bigger or smaller hook to make a bigger or smaller appliqué).
  • 2 black safety eyes (7.5 mm)
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern: How to crochet a Miss Elaina applique?


The dress and the head

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the yellow yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 11. (11)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)

Change for the dark pink yarn.

  • Rows 3-4: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)
  • Row 5: turn, ch1; 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 6 st, 1 dec. (8)
  • Rows 6-7: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 8 st. (8)
  • Row 8: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 3 st. (7)
  • Row 9: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)
  • Row 10: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 2 st. (5)

Change for the yellow yarn

  • Row 11: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 5 st. (5) Place a stitch marker in the first and last st or the row.

Change for the brown yarn

  • Row 12: turn, ch1; working in back loop only: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 inc. (7)
  • Row 13: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)
  • Row 14: turn, ch1; 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 5 st, 1 inc. (9)
  • Row 15: turn, ch1; 1 sc in the next 9 st. (9)

The arms

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark pink yarn.

Right arm:

  • Row 1: Join with the dark pink yarn on the stitch marker that you place on the row 11 (the one on the left) and make 1 sc in the same st; 1 sc in the next 2 st. (3)

  • Row 2: ch1, turn: 1 inc in the next st, 1 dec. (3)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc in the next st. (3)
  • Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 inc in the next st, 1 dec. (3)
  • Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc in the next st. (3)

The hair

The hair are done by 4 pieces: 2 pieces sewn on each sides of the head and 2 pieces for the piggy tails.

Let’s start by the 2 pieces to be sewn on the head:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark yarn.

Left side:

  • Row 1: Ch 4. (4)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)
  • Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)
  • Row 6: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)
  • Row 7: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)
  • Row 8: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Right side:

  • Row 1: Ch 4. (4)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew both pieces on each side of the head and sew them together by the middle.

Let’s do the 2 piggy tails as follow:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark yarn.

Round 1: make 6 st in a magic ring

Make 1 sl st in the first st of the round 1.

Cut the yarn but keep a long tail for sewing.

Sew both piggy tails to the top of the hair.

With the tapestry needle and the dark pink yarn, make an headband on the head and over the piggy tails.

Place the eyes between the rounds 17 and 18, spaced by 3 st. Do not attach them yet! Once you are happy with their position, take them off and with your tapestry needle and the black cotton yarn, make the eyelashes and the eyebrows. Attach the eyes.

With your tapestry needle and the brown yarn, make a nose. With the dark pink yarn, make the cheeks.

With the brown pearl cotton, make the mouth.

The hair

The hair are done by 4 pieces: 2 pieces sewn on each sides of the head and 2 pieces for the piggy tails.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark yarn.

Left side:

Row 1: Ch 4. (4)

Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)

Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Row 6: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)

Row 7: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Row 8: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Right side:

Row 1: Ch 4. (4)

Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 inc. (3)

Row 6: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Row 8: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 dec. (3)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew both pieces on each side of the head and sew them together by the middle.

Let's do the 2 piggy tails as follow:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark yarn.

Round 1: make 6 st in a magic ring

Make 1 sl st in the first st of the round 1.

Cut the yarn but keep a long tail for sewing.

Sew both piggy tails to the top of the hair.

With the tapestry needle and the dark pink yarn, make an headband on the head and over the piggy tails.

Place the eyes between the rounds 17 and 18, spaced by 3 st. Do not attach them yet! Once you are happy with their position, take them off and with your tapestry needle and the black cotton yarn, make the eyelashes and the eyebrows. Attach the eyes.

With your tapestry needle and the brown yarn, make a nose. With the dark pink yarn, make the cheeks.

With the brown pearl cotton, make the mouth.
