Crochet Owl – Appliqué
Size:
5.5 inches (14 cm)
Material:
- Yarn calling for 5,5 mm hook in: drak blue, blue, light blue, white, cream, green and orange
- A very small amount of pearl cotton in black (for the eyebrows)
- Size 3.5 mm crochet hook (you can use a bigger or smaller hook to make a bigger or smaller appliqué).
- 2 black safety eyes (7.5 mm)
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle

Light worsted yarn.
I used « I love this cotton» Hobby Lobby.
Pattern: How to crochet an owl applique?
The legs
Right leg:
With a 3.5 mm crochet and the white yarn.
- Row 1: ch 5. (5)
- Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st (place a marker in the first st); 3 sc in the last st; now working in the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the last 3 st. (9)
- 1 sl st in the next st (the st with the marker)
Change for the green yarn
- Row 3: make 1 sc in the same stitch where you did the sl st, 1 sc in the next 2 st. (3)
Change for the cream yarn
- Row 4: ch1, turn: working in front loop only: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
- Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 sc in the next st. (2)
- Rows 6 to 7: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 2 st. (2)
Cut the yarn (keep a long tail for sewing) and keep the leg for later.
Left leg :
With a 3.5 mm crochet and the white yarn.
- Row 1: ch 5. (5)
- Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st (place a marker in the first st); 3 sc in the last st; now working in the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the last 3 st. (9)
- 1 sl st in the next st (the st with the marker)
Change for the green yarn
- Row 3: ch1, turn: miss the sl st and then make 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
Change for the cream yarn

- Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 6 st, 1 inc. (10)
- Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)
Change for the dark blue
- Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)
Change for the blue
- Rows 6-7: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)
- Row 8: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 8 st, 1 inc. (12)
- Rows 9-13: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 12 st. (12)
- Row 14: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 8 st, 1 dec. (10)
- Rows 15-16: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)

Cut the yarn, sew in the ends.

The wings (arms) – Make 2

- Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next st, 1 hdc in the next 2 st, 1 DC in the next 2 st. (5)
Cut the yarn (keep a long tail for sewing).
Sew the wings on each side of the body.
The eye patch – make 2
With a 3.5 mm crochet and the light blue yarn.
- Round 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring. (8)
- Row 2: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
- Row 3: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
- Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 sc in the next st. (2)
Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.
Place the safety eye in the center of the magic ring.
With your tapestry needle and the black pearl cotton, make an eyebrow above the eye.
Keep them for later.
The beak
With a 3.5 mm crochet and the orange yarn.
- Row 1: ch 3. (3)
- Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 2 st. (2)
