Crochet Prince Wednesday – Appliqué

 

Size:

5.5 inches (14 cm)

 

Material:

  • Yarn calling for 5,5 mm hook in: dark blue, purple, brown, yellow, white, light pink
  • A very small amount of pearl cotton in black and pink (for the eyebrows/glasses and the mouth)
  • Size 3.5 mm crochet hook (you can use a bigger or smaller hook to make a bigger or smaller appliqué).
  • 2 black safety eyes (7.5 mm)
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)

Pattern: How to crochet a Prince Wednesday applique?


The body

The pattern starts by the shoes and legs that are made separately and joined together.

Right leg (left side):

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark blue yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 5. (5)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st (place a marker in the first st); 3 sc in the last st; now working in the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the last 3 st.  (9)
  • 1 sl st in the next st (the st with the marker)
  • Row 3: make 1 sc in the same stitch where you did the sl st, 1 sc in the next 2 st.  (3)
  • Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Change for the purple yarn

  • Rows 6 to 9: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Cut the yarn and keep the leg for later.


Left leg (right side of the body):

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the dark blue yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 5. (5)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 3 st (place a marker in the first st); 3 sc in the last st; now working in the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the last 3 st.  (9)
  • 1 sl st in the next st (the st with the marker)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn: miss the sl st and then make 1 sc in the next 3 st.  (3)
  • Row 4: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)
  • Row 5: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Change for the purple yarn

  • Rows 6 to 9: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

We will now join both legs together:

  • Row 10: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st; ch 1, 1 sc in the 3 st from the right leg. (7)
  • Row 11: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (7)
  • Row 12: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 3 st. (8)

Change for the brown yarn:

  • Row 13: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (8)

Change for the purple yarn:

  • Row 14: ch1, turn: working in back loop only: 1 sc in all st. (8)
  • Rows 15-16: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (8)
  • Row 17: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 3 st. (7)
  • Rows 18: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (7)

Change for the light pink yarn:

  • Row 21: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 inc. (7)
  • Row 22: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (7)
  • Row 23: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 5 st, 1 inc. (9)
  • Row 24: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (9)
  • Row 25: ch1, turn: 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 7 st, 1 inc. (11)
  • Row 26: ch1, turn: 1 sc in all st. (11)

The hair

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the brown yarn.

Join with the brown yarn on Round 26 of the head (which is about at the middle of the head).

  • Row 1: Make 1 sc in the same st where you joined, 1 sc in the next 11 st, 1 sl st in the next st.
  • Row 2: ch 1, turn; make 1 sc in the next 11 st, 1 sl st in the next st.

Cut the yarn and yarn over.

With your tapestry needle and a strand of brown yarn, make a fringe all along the hair.




With the yellow yarn and your tapestry needle, make a buckle on the belt.

Place the eyes between the rounds 26 and 27, spaced by 3 st.

With your tapestry needle and the black pearl cotton, make the glasses around the eyes and the eyebrows. With the pink pearl cotton, make the mouth.


The crown

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the yellow yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 8. (8)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn; 1 DC in the next st, ch 3, 1 sl st in the next 2 st, 1 DC in the next st, ch 3,  1 sl st in the next 2 st, 1 DC in the next st, ch 3, 1 sl st in the same st where you did your last DC. (17)

Cut the yarn (leave a long tail for sewing) and yarn over. Sew the crown at the top of the head.


The cape

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the yellow yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 13. (13)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 12 st. (12)
  • Rows 3-9: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 12 st. (12)
  • Row 10: ch1, turn: 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 8 st, 1 dec. (10)
  • Rows 11-13: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next 10 st. (10)

We are now making the tail to attach the cape. Keep working as follow:

  • Row 14: ch1, turn: 1 sc in the next st, ch 9. Turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 8 st. Keep working in the st from the row 13: 1 sc in the next 8 st, 1 sc in the next st (place st marker), ch 9.  Turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 8 st. 1 sl st in the st with the stitch marker.

Cut the yarn and yarn over.
