Let’s start – Free Crochet Pattern – School bus

The window:

  • The window is worked in rows.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the grey or light blue:

  • Row 1: ch 8. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 7 ch. (7)
  • Rows 2 to 3: ch1, turn, 7 sc. (7)
  • make a sl st in the next st.

Cut the yarn, but leave a long tail for sewing. Keep it for later.

The school bus:

  • The school bus is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Don’t forget to stuff as you crochet.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the black:

  • Round 1: ch 10. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 8 ch, 2 sc in the last ch. Now working on the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the next 8 ch. (18)
  • Round 2:  [2 sc, 1 inc] x6. (24)

  • Round 3: working in the back loop only: [1 sc in all st]. (24)

Change for the yellow:

  • Rounds 4 to 14: [1 sc in all st]. (24)

Take the window piece and position the eyes between Rounds 2 and 3, leaving 3 stitches of space between them — but do not secure the backs yet. Place the window on the front of the school bus, covering Rounds 8 to 11. I placed the window upside down so that the space between the eyes and the bottom edge of the window is slightly smaller than the space at the top. Insert the safety eye backs from inside the bus to secure them in place. Finally, use your tapestry needle to sew the window onto the bus.

Keep working on the bus, still with the yellow:

  • Round 15: [12 dec]. (12)

Fill the school bus.

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail.

Using your tapestry needle, close the school bus by working through the front loops only of the 12 stitches. Pull the yarn tight to close the opening securely.

With your tapestry needle and the black yarn, make 2 eyebrows above the window.

With your tapestry needle and the black embroidery thread, make a mouth over round 6.

The cheeks:

  • The cheeks are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral).

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the pink:

  • Round 1: Start 5 sc in a magic ring. (5)
  • Finish by a sl st in the first sc. Cut but leave a long tail for sewing.

Make 1 more cheek.

Sew the cheeks to the school bus, below the window, over Rounds 5 to 7.

The wheels:

  • The wheels are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral).

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the black:

  • Round 1: Start 8 sc in a magic ring. (8)
  • Round 2: working in the back loop only: [1 sc in all st]. (8)
  • Round 3: working in the back loop only: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Using your tapestry needle, close the wheel by working through the front loops only of the 8 stitches. Pull the yarn tight to close the opening securely.

Make another wheel.

Sew the wheels to the school bus over Rounds 1 and 2.
