Free crochet pattern – Apple

I’m excited to share this apple amigurumi pattern — the perfect addition to my Back-to-School crochet collection! This project is quick, easy, and beginner-friendly, making it a fun little make for any level of crocheter.

The tiny apple is just the right size for a keychain, teacher gift, or classroom decoration. Whether you make it in classic red, green, or even yellow, it’s sure to add a sweet handmade touch to the new school year.

Crochet Pattern – Free Crochet Pattern – Apple

Start Here:

Please read the entire pattern carefully before beginning.

The pattern is written using US terms. The design can be created with yarn in various sizes. I made it with worsted yarn.

Size:

  • 1.5 inches (3 cm) tall with light worsted yarn

Material:

  • Yarn calling for a 5.5 mm hook in red, brown, green and pink.
  • Embroidery thread in black for the mouths
  • Size 2.75 mm crochet hook (B/2). 
  • 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle
  • poly-fill

Abbreviations:

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • increase (inc)
  • invisible decrease (dec)
  • slip stitch (sl st)
  • half double crochet (hdc)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • back loop only (blo)

Pattern: How to crochet an apple?


Let’s start – Free Crochet Pattern – Apple

  • The apple is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Don’t forget to stuff as you crochet.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the red.

  • Round 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6) 
  • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 sc, 1 inc] x6. (18)
  • Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Round 5: [2 sc, 1 inc] x6. (24)
  • Rounds 6 to 11 : [1 sc in all st]. (24)
  • Round 12: [2 sc, 1 dec] x6. (18)

Place the eyes between Rounds 9 and 10, spaced by 3 st.

With your tapestry needle and the black embroidery thread, make a mouth over round 7. 

With your tapestry needle and the pink yarn, make two little cheeks over 1 stitch between Rounds 7 and 8.

Fill the apple.

  • Round 13: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)
  • Round 14: [6dec]. (6)

Cut the yarn, but leave a long tail.

Close the apple and fasten off.

With your tapestry needle and the long tail, thread through the apple from the center of Round 14 to the center of Round 1. Repeat this back and forth a couple of times to create the slightly concave shape of a real apple.

The stem:

  • The stem is worked in rows

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the brown.

  • Row 1: ch 5. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 4 slst. (4)

Cut the yarn, but leave a long tail for sewing. 

Sew the stem at the top of the apple.

The leaf:

  • The leaf is worked in rows

With a 2.75 mm crochet and the green.

  • Row 1: ch 6. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. (5)

Cut the yarn, but leave a long tail for sewing. 

Sew the leaf at the top of the apple.
