Free crochet pattern – Notebook

Looking for a fun and unique crochet project to add to your Back to School collection? 📓 This free crochet notebook pattern is small, squishy, and easy to make — perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike.

The little notebook is designed in a soft, squishmallow-like style, and the embroidered lines add a realistic touch that makes it extra adorable. It’s a quick project that works great as a teacher gift, classroom decoration, or even a cute item to sell at craft fairs and farmer’s markets.

Because it only requires a small amount of yarn and simple stitches, this pattern is beginner-friendly and perfect for stash-busting. You’ll love how quickly it comes together — and kids will love having their very own crochet notebook pal!

This notebook is the third pattern in my Back to School Series, so be sure to check out the pencil and glue bottle, too.

Pattern: How to crochet a notebook?

Let’s start – Free Crochet Pattern – Notebook

  • The notebook is worked in rows.

Back of the notebook:

With a 2.75 mm crochet and white yarn

  • Row 1: ch 10. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 9 ch. (9)
  • Rows 2 to 12: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 9 ch. (9)

Cut the yarn, secure the end, and keep it for later use.

Front of the notebook:

With a 2.75 mm crochet and white yarn

  • Row 1: ch 10. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 9 ch. (9)
  • Rows 2 to 12: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 9 ch. (9)

Do not cut the yarn.

With your tapestry needle and blue yarn, embroider the notebook lines. Start with 1 vertical line on the left side, about 1 stitch away from the edge. Then add 6 horizontal lines, spaced evenly across the front. Refer to the pictures below for guidance. Cut the yarn and secure the end.

Place the eyes over Row 7, spaced by 3 stitches.

With your tapestry needle and the light pink, make 2 little cheeks below the eyes, over 1 stitch.  With the black embroidery thread, make a mouth between Rows 5 and 6.

Cut the yarn and secure the end. It doesn’t have to be pretty; everything will be hidden inside the notebook.

Place the front of the notebook over the back, aligning the edges. Work 1 sc all around, inserting your hook through both layers to join them together. At each corner, make 1 ch before continuing in the next stitch — this will help keep the corners square. Add a little stuffing inside before closing completely. Once you reach the starting point, finish with 1 sl st into the first sc. Cut the yarn, fasten off, and weave in the end.
