Crochet Pattern – Free Crochet Pattern Pencil

Start Here:

Please read the entire pattern carefully before beginning.

The pattern is written using US terms. The design can be created with yarn in various sizes. I made it with worsted yarn.

Size:

  • 3 inches (7 cm) tall with light worsted yarn

Material:

  • Yarn calling for a 5.5 mm hook in dark pink, light grey, yellow, beige, dark grey and a small anount of pink for the cheeks.
  • Embroidery thread in black for the mouth
  • Size 2.75 mm crochet hook (B/2). You can use a larger crochet. It will work fine but your pencil will be slightly bigger.
  • 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle
  • poly-fill

Abbreviations:

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • increase (inc)
  • invisible decrease (dec)
  • slip stitch (sl st)
  • half double crochet (hdc)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • back loop only (blo)

Pattern: How to crochet a pencil?


Let’s start – Free Crochet Pattern Pencil

  • The pencil is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Don’t forget to stuff as you crochet.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and dark pink yarn

  • Round 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring. (8) 
  • Round 2: [8 inc]. (16)
  • Round 3: working in the blo (back lop only): [1 sc in all st]. (16)
  • Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (16)

Change to the light grey yarn:

  • Round 5: working in the blo (back lop only): [1 sc in all st]. (16)
  • Round 6: [1 sc in all st]. (16)

Change to the yellow yarn:

  • Rounds 7 to 14: [1 sc in all st]. (16)

Place the eyes between Rounds 11 and 12, spaced by 2 stitches. 

With your tapestry needle and the light pink, make 2 little cheeks between Rounds 9 and 10, over 1 stitch and spaces by 4 stitches.  With the black embroidery thread, make a mouth over round 9. 

Fill the pencil.

Change to the beige yarn:

  • Round 15: [1 sc in all st]. (16)
  • Round 16: [1 sc in the next 6 st, 1 dec] x2. (14)
  • Round 17: [1 sc in the next 5 st, 1 dec] x2. (12)

Change to the dark grey yarn:

  • Round 18: [1 sc in the next 4 st, 1 dec] x2. (10)

Fill the pencil.

  • Round 19: [1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 dec] x2. (8)
  • Round 20: [1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 dec] x2. (6)

Close the body with your tapestry needle. 

Congratulations, your pencil is ready!
