Valentine Bee Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

Start Here:

Please read through the entire pattern before starting.
This pattern uses US crochet terminology.

This pattern includes:

  • 1 Body
  • 2 wings
  • 2 antennae
  • 1 heart

Finished Size:

  • Approximately 1.8 inches (4.5 cm) tall with light worsted yarn, including the antennae.

Material:

  • Light worsted (medium #4) yarn in yellow, brown, and white (yarn recommends a 5.5 mm hook; we will use smaller hooks for amigurumi).
  • Embroidery thread in red for the heart
  • Cotton Thread in black for the mouth
  • 2.75 mm (US C-2) crochet hook
  • 2.25 mm (US B-1) crochet hook
  • 2 black safety eyes (6 mm) 
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyfill stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • mr = magic ring
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase
  • dec = invisible decrease
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • DC = double crochet
  • HDC = half double crochet

How to crochet a Valentine Bee?


Body

  • The body is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • We start at the bottom of the body.
  • Remember to stuff as you go.

With brown yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

    • Round 1: 6 sc in a mr. (6) 
    • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
    • Round 3: [1 inc, 1 sc]x6. (18)

Change to yellow:

    • Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Change to brown:

    • Round 5: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Change to yellow:

    • Rounds 6 to 10: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
    • Round 11: [1 dec, 1 sc] x6. (12)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 8 and 9, spaced 2 stitches apart.
With black cotton thread, embroider a small smile over Round 7.

Stuff the body firmly.

  • Round 12: [6 dec]. (6)

Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loops of all 6 stitches and pull gently to close the opening. Secure the yarn and weave in the end.


Antenna (make 2) 

With brown yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

  • Row 1:
    ch 7; starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sl st in the next 3 ch.

Sew the antennae to the top of the head between Rounds 11 and 12, spaced about 3 stitches apart.


Wings (make 2) 

With white yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

  • Round 1:
    ch 4; working in the 4th ch from the hook:
    2 DC, 3 HDC, 1 DC (bottom tip), 3 HDC, 2 DC, ch 2;
    sl st into the same 4th ch.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the wings onto the back of the body, placing the bottom tips between Rounds 6 and 7, spaced about 2 stitches apart.


Heart 

With red embroidery thread and a 2.25 mm hook:

  • Round 1:
    ch 2; working in the 2nd ch from the hook:
    1 DC, 2 HDC, 1 DC (bottom tip), 2 HDC, 1 DC, ch 1;
    sl st into the same 2nd ch.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the heart to the front side of the body.
