Crochet Pattern – No-sew Crochet Black Cat

Start Here:

  • Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.
  • The pattern is written using US terms.
  • This design is no-sew: all parts are crocheted directly onto the body.

Parts:

  • 1 Body
  • 2 ears
  • 1 tail

Size:

  • Approx. 1.25 in (3 cm) using light worsted yarn
  • Approx. 2.5 in (7 cm) using plush yarn

Material:

  • Worsted yarn in black and a very small amount in pink for the nose OR Plush yarn in black and a very small amount in pink for the nose
  • Worsted yarn: A small amount of green and white cotton thread (size 8) for the eyes and the whiskers
  • Plush yarn: worsted yarn in green and white
  • Worsted yarn: US C-2 / 2.75 mm crochet hook
  • Plush yarn: US 7 / 4.5 mm crochet hook
  • 2 black safety eyes: 6mm for worsted yarn OR 9 mm for plush yarn
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyfill stuffing

Pattern: How to crochet a No-sew Black Cat?


Body

  • Worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Remember to stuff as you crochet.

With black yarn:

    • Round 1: 6 sc in a mr. (6)
      Plush yarn alternative: ch 2, make 6 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. (6)
    • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
    • Round 3: [1 inc in the next st, 1 sc]x6. (18)
    • Rounds 4-9: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Face Details

  • Insert safety eyes between Rounds 7 and 8, spaced by 2 stitches.
  • With 2 strands of green thread, embroider small eye accents on each side of the eyes.
  • With pink yarn, embroider a small nose between Rounds 6 and 7, over 1 stitch.
  • With 1 strand of white thread, embroider two whiskers on each side.

Finish the Body

  • Round 10: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Round 11: [1 dec, 1 sc]x6. (12)

Stuff firmly.

  • Round 12: [6 dec]. (6)

Fasten off, close the opening, and weave in ends.


Ears (make 2)

The ears are worked directly onto the body over Rounds 10–11.

Left Ear

Join black yarn under a stitch of Round 10, on the side of the head.

    • Row 1: ch 3. 
    • Row 2: starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc, 1 hdc. (2)

Fasten off. Pull the yarn tail inside the body and secure with a small knot.

Right Ear

Join black yarn under a stitch of Round 11, on the opposite side of the head.

Tail
