Crochet Avocados: Appliques

You will find here a free Avocado applique Crochet Pattern.


Who does not love avocados? Definitely not me! I am obsessed and I think there should be more avocados around us so I decided to make these wonderful crochet avocado appliques! There were obviously too cute to make only one of them so I have decided to make a family of crochet avocados!

SIZE :

4” / 10 cm tall for the biggest and 3” / 8 cm tall for the smallest when made with the indicated yarn. You can use a smaller or bigger hook to get a smaller or bigger applique.

 

MATERIALS:

• 1 type of yarn calling for 5,5 mm (US I-9) hook in 3 different colors (and a very small amount of black and pink yarn for the mouth, eyelashes, eyebrows and cheeks)
• Size 4.5 mm crochet hook
• Size 3.5 mm crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• 6.5 mm black safety eyes

 

What did I use?

Light worsted yarn in brown, light green and dark green.
I used «Rico Creative Cotton Aran» in Pistachio (color 41), Light Pistachio (color 44) and Nougat (color 56).

How to crochet an avocado applique?


Let’s start this crochet avocado!


PART 1: Small Crochet Avocado – Avocado applique Crochet Pattern

 

Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the brown yarn

 

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)

Round 2: inc 6 times (12)

Round 3: [sc in next st, inc in next st] x6 (18)

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the light green yarn

Join your new color and keep working in rounds.

Round 4: [sc in next 2 st, inc in next st] x6 (24).

Round 5: [sc in next 3 st, inc in next st] x6 (30). Place st marker in the first stitch and the 20th stitch of the round.

We are now working in rows (still with a 3.5 mm crochet and the light green yarn)

Row 6: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 6 st, 1 dec. (8)

Row 7: ch1, turn; sc in all. (8)

Row 8: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 4 st, 1 dec. (6)

Row 9: ch1, turn; sc in all. (6)

Row 10: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 2 st, 1 dec. (4)

Row 11: ch1, turn; sc in all. (4). Place stitch markers in the first st.

 

DO NOT TURN. Change your hook and use the 4.5 mm hook.  Make 6 sc evenly until the first stitch marker. Make 1 sc in the stitch with your st marker. You can now remove this stitch marker. Make 1 sc in the next 19 st (the last sc you make must be in the st with your 2nd st marker).  You can remove this stitch marker.  Make 6 sc evenly until the third stitch marker you added.

With your 4.5 mm crochet and the dark green yarn.

Join the new color and make 1 sc in each st, all around. Once the round is completed, cut the yarn and sew in the end.


PART 2: Large Crochet Avocado – Avocado applique Crochet Pattern

 

Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the brown yarn

 

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)

Round 2: inc 6 times (12)

Round 3: [sc in next st, inc in next st] x6 (18)

Round 4: [sc in next 2 st, inc in next st] x6 (24)

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the light green yarn

Join your new color and keep working in rounds.

Round 5: [sc in next 3 st, inc in next st] x6 (30).

Round 6: [sc in next 4 st, inc in next st] x6 (36). Place st marker in the first stitch and the 24th stitch of the round.

 

We are now working in rows (still with a 3.5 mm crochet and the light green yarn)

Row 7: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 8 st, 1 dec. (10)

Row 8: ch1, turn; sc in all. (10)

Row 9: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 6 st, 1 dec. (8)

Row 10: ch1, turn; sc in all. (8)

Row 11: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 4 st, 1 dec. (6)

Row 12: ch1, turn; sc in all. (6)

Row 13: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 2 st, 1 dec. (4)

Row 14: ch1, turn; sc in all. (4). Place stitch marker in the first st.

DO NOT TURN. Change your hook and use the 4.5 mm hook.  Make 9 sc evenly until the first stitch marker. Make 1 sc in the stitch with your st marker. You can now remove this stitch marker. Make 1 sc in the next 23 st (the last sc you make must be in the st with your 2nd st marker).  You can remove this stitch marker.  Make 9 sc evenly until the third stitch marker you added.

 

With your 4.5 mm crochet and the dark green yarn.

Join the new color and make 1 sc in each st, all around. Once the round is completed, cut the yarn and sew in the end.

PART 3: The faces – Avocado applique Crochet Pattern

 

Now that you have done your avocados, you can work on the faces!

 

Baby Avocado:

Place the eyes between row 2 and 3, spaced by 2 st.

With some black yarn and your tapestry needle, make a mouth just below row 1.

Male Avocado:

Place the eyes between row 2 and 3, spaced by 2 st.

With some black yarn and your tapestry needle, make a mouth just below row 1.

With some black yarn and your tapestry needle, make eyebrows just above the eyes.

 

Female Avocado:

How to make eyelashes?

With some black yarn and your tapestry needle, make eyelashes. Identify where the eyes will go (between row 2 and 3, spaced by 2 st.). From there make 2 eyelashes for each eye. Then place the eyes.

With the black yarn and your tapestry needle, make a mouth just below row 1.

With some pink yarn, make two small dots under the eyes to make the cheeks.
