Crochet Adult Bunny

Start Here

Please read the entire pattern before starting.
This pattern is written in US crochet terms.

The bunny is worked mostly in continuous rounds (spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed and stuff as you crochet.

Parts

Body (legs, body, and head in one piece)
2 arms
2 ears (or 4 for firmer ears)
1 tail

Finished Size (without ears)

Approx. 3.5 in (9 cm) using worsted yarn
Approx. 6.5 in (16 cm) using plush yarn

Material:

Yarn

Worsted or plush yarn in Brown yarn (main color) and a small amount of pink yarn for the nose

Hooks

2.75 mm (US C-2) for worsted yarn
4.5 mm (US 7) for plush yarn

👉 Use the same hook size throughout the pattern according to your yarn choice unless stated otherwise.

2 black safety eyes: 7.5 mm (worsted) or 12 mm (plush)
Black or pink cotton thread (worsted) or black or pink yarn (plush) for facial details
Stitch markers (optional)
Tapestry needle
Polyfill stuffing

mr – magic ring

Pattern: How to crochet a bunny?

Legs (make 2)

Worked in continuous rounds.
Stuff lightly.

Leg 1

With brown yarn:

- Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  Plush option: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
- Round 2: [1 inc, 2 sc] x2. (8)
- Rounds 3-6: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Fasten off and set aside.

Leg 2

With brown yarn:

- Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  Plush option: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
- Round 2: [1 inc, 2 sc] x2. (8)
- Rounds 3-6: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Do not fasten off.

Body & Head

Continue with brown yarn.

Worked in continuous rounds.
Stuff as you go.

Round 7: Join the legs

From Leg 2 (still on the hook), ch 2.
Hold both legs with the openings facing up and the toes pointing forward.

Work 8 sc around Leg 1
Then work 1 sc in each of the 2 chains
Then work 8 sc around Leg 2 (20)

Stuff the legs firmly.

Rounds 8-15: [1 sc in all st]. (20)
Round 16: [8 sc, 1 dec] x2. (18)

Stuff the body.

Round 17: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)
Round 18: [1 sc, 1 inc] x6. (18)
Round 19: [2 sc, 1 inc] x6. (24)
Rounds 20-24: [1 sc in all st]. (24)
Round 25: [2 sc, 1 dec] x6. (18)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 22 and 23, spaced by 3 stitches and centered on the face.

Round 26: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)

Stuff the head firmly.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the head. Secure and weave in ends.

Nose

With 2 strands of pink yarn (or black thread if preferred), embroider a small triangle nose over 2 stitches between Rounds 21 and 22.

Arms (make 2)

Worked in continuous rounds.

With brown yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Plush option: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
Round 2: [1 inc, 2 sc] x2. (8)
Rounds 3-8: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Sl st to next stitch.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff lightly.

Sew the arms to the body between Rounds 15 and 16, spaced about 7 stitches apart.

Ears (make 2 or 4)

Tip:

For firmer, upright ears (recommended for plush yarn), make 4 panels and join 2 panels together for each ear.
For softer ears, make 1 panel per ear.

I used just one panel per ear for the bunny made with worsted-weight yarn, and two panels per ear for the bunny made with plush yarn.

With brown yarn:

Row 1: ch 11.
Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook; 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 HDC, 4 DC, 1 HDC, 1 sc, 1 sl st. (10)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

For firmer ears: place 2 panels together and crochet sc evenly around, fasten off.

Sew the ears to the top of the head over Round 25, spaced by about 5 stitches.

Tail

With brown yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Plush option: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook

Sl st to next stitch.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew the tail to the back of the body over Round 10.

Round 6: [1 sc in the next 22 st] – leave the last 2 st unworked. (22)

👉 From this point, work in rows. Turn at the end of each row.

Rows 7-9: ch1, turn: [1 sc in the next 20 st]. (20)
Row 10: ch1, turn: [1 sc in the next 15 st]. (15)
Row 11: ch1, turn: [1 sc in the next 10 st]. (10)
Row 12: ch1, turn: [1 dec, 1 sc in the next 6 st, 1 dec]. (8)

Fasten off. Sew to front of overalls.
