Crochet Bee Amigurumi

Find here an easy crochet pattern to make a cute crochet bee

Hi everyone! Look at these crochet honeybees. This crochet bee amigurumi pattern is easy to follow. I made them for the children at my son’s preschool for Valentine’s day. It only took me a couple of hours to make 12 of them. They are adorable, you can change the colors for all of them. I added a keychain to them. You can also make a little crochet heart in a matching color and it will make the sweetest gift.

Don’t forget to join my facebook group,  you can ask your questions, share your finished projects and I will regularly ask you what pattern you would like to see next (or you can even suggest something even if I am not asking!).

I hope you will enjoy and understand the pattern. If you have any questions, feel free to write to me, I will try my best to help you. And I would love to see your work!

Pattern: How to crochet a bee amigurumi?

We start by the head and finish by the bottom of the body.

The head and Body – Crochet Bee Amigurumi

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the yellow yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 inc in all st]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 sc, 1 inc] x6. (18)
  • Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Round 5: [2 sc, 1 inc] x6. (24)
  • Rounds 6-8: [1 sc in all st]. (24)
  • Round 9: [2 sc, 1 dec] x6. (18)
  • Round 10: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Do not cut the yarn, we just stop for now in order to attach the antennae, place the eyes and make the mouth.

Take your secondary color. Join this new color between round 2 and 3 (see the pictures) and work as follow:

  • Row 1: ch 6. (6)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: [1 sl st in all ch]. (5)

Cut the yarn. I then inserted both ends on the inside of the head and tied them together to secure them. I don’t cut the yarn, I just leave them inside but you can do whatever works better for you.

Make the second antennae on the opposite side of the head and work exactly like you did for the first antennae.

Place the safety eyes between rounds 6 and 7, spaced by 3 st.

With your tapestry needle and the brown pearl cotton yarn, make a mouth over round 9.

We will now keep working on the body. Keep working with the yellow yarn:

  • Round 11: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)

Change for your secondary color. NB: here is the way I join my new color to make the change as invisible as possible. There are multiples ways to do it, just pick up one that works for you. I don’t make the last st of the previous row completely. I insert my crochet in the loop to work (both loops if I need to do a decrease), I grab the new color and make a sl st instead of a normal st. I hope it makes sense, please look at the pictures below to help you. I will try to make a video if you need it.

  • Round 12: [1 sc in all st]. (12)
  • Round 13: [1 sc, 1 inc] x6. (18)

Fill the head and the top of the body.

  • Rounds 14-15: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Change for the yellow color (NB: I don’t cut the strands of yarn either, I tie them together and let them inside the body).

  • Rounds 16-19: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Change for your secondary color.

  • Round 20: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)
  • Round 21: [1 sc in all st]. (12)

Fill the body.

  • Round 22: [6 dec]. (6)
  • Round 23: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Fill the body (I use the other side of my crochet hook to add more stuffing). Cut the yarn and close the body. I leave a long tail and I go back and forth inside the body before to cut the yarn.

The wings – Crochet Bee Amigurumi

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the white yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 6. (6)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the second ch from the hook: [1 sc, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 4 DC in the last st; now working on the other side of the chain: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sc]. (12)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail to sew the wing to the body.

Make another wing.

I then sewed both wings together and attach them at the back of the body. I don’t cut any of the strings, I use all of them to sew the wings and then I pull all of them through the body before to cut them (see pictures)

With a small paintbrush, you can add a little bit of blush to make the cheeks.

All done! I hope you enjoyed this pattern. Let me know what you think of it!
