Find here an easy crochet pattern to make The Grinch
Hi everyone! Someone asked me on our VIP Facebook group if I could make a crochet pattern for a Grinch so here it is! It was really fun to make! It is probably one of the patterns I enjoyed the most to make. Possibly because I love the Grinch! The body is made in one part, so if don’t like sewing a lot of parts, it is the perfect crochet project for you. You will only have to sew the arms!
Don’t forget to join my facebook group, you can ask your questions, and share your finished projects. I will regularly ask you what pattern you would like to see next (or you can even suggest something even if I am not asking!).
I hope you will enjoy and understand the pattern. If you have any questions, feel free to write to me, I will try my best to help you. And I would love to see your work!

Before going further, let’s attach the arms, the eyes and make the nose.
Sew the arms to the body (the top of the arms are on Round 23)
Place the eyes between rounds 34 and 35, spaced by 2 st but DO NOT attach them yet. Once you know where you want to place them, take one of them off. With your tapestry needle and the yellow yarn, make the eyeball (see pictures below). I made the eyeballs with 3 strands of yarn. Do the same for the other eye. Attach the safety eyes.
With your tapestry needle and the black cotton (I used 2 threads), make 2 eyebrows over the eyes. See the pictures below. I should have done a video for this part. Let me know if we need any help. The inside part of the eyebrow is between rounds 35 and 36. The outside part of the eyebrow is between rounds 36 and 37 (first 2 pictures below). Then you need to insert your tapestry needle in the middle of the eyebrow but below it, then insert it back at the exact same place but above it (pictures 3 and 4 below).
With your tapestry needle and the black cotton (I used 2 threads), make the mouth. The bottom part of the mouth is between rounds 30 and 31. The top parts of the mouth are between rounds 32 and 33. As you previously made for the eyebrows, you should make 2 little stitches above and below the mouth on each side to make it stay in place (see pictures 2 and 3). Then make the top parts of the mouth on each sides.
With your tapestry needle and the green yarn, make a nose (with 2 strands) between rounds 33 and 34.
Keep working on the head
- Round 38: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)
- Round 39: [1 sc, 1 dec] x3. (8)
Fill and close the head.
For the hair, cut 4 strands of yarn. Insert them all around your closing rounds. Separate the stands of yarn, brush and cut. I used a little bit of hairspray to make them stay together properly.
The hat – Crochet Grinch Pattern
With a 3.5 mm crochet and red yarn.

- Round 4: [1 sc, 1 inc] x3. (9)
- Round 5: [1 sc in all st]. (9)
- Round 6: [2 sc, 1 inc] x3. (12)
- Round 7: [1 sc in all st]. (12)
- Round 8: [3 sc, 1 inc] x3. (15)
- Round 9: [1 sc in all st]. (15)
- Round 10: [4 sc, 1 inc] x3. (18)
- Round 11: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
- Round 12: [5 sc, 1 inc] x3. (21)

- Round 17: [1 sc in all st]. (27)

Change for the white
- Round 19: [28 dc]. (28)
- Round 20: [front post/back post dc all around]. (28)
Cut the yarn and fasten off.
If you have a pompom maker, make a little white pompom and sew it to the top of the hat.
If you prefer, you can use a white pompom and glue it at the top of the hat.
Fold the hat and make a little stitch with your tapestry needle and the red yarn to make sure it stays like that.

hi there. I am loving the Grinch Pattern, however, row 19 for the hat states: 28dc bur the stitch count says (24).
I suspect that this may be an error in the pattern.
Regards, Lynn
Hi, yes 28 for the count stitch! Sorry about that. Thank you for letting me know! 🙂
I have to say, this is the most succinct set of directions I have ever encountered!
Kudos! I love the Grinch.
Best, Diane
