Baby Jesus Doll – Free Crochet Pattern

Start Here:

Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.

The pattern is written using US terms.

This pattern is made of the following parts:

1 Body
1 hat
1 basket

Size:

2.5 inches (6 cm) with light worsted yarn (I used I love this cotton from Hobby Lobby).

Material:

Yarn calling for a US I-9 / 5.5 mm hook in peach, white, dark brown, yellow
Size US C-2 / 2.75 mm crochet hook.
2 black safety eyes (4.5 mm)
Stitch markers (if needed)
Tapestry needle/ Small needle
Polyfill

Abbreviations:

chain (ch)
magic ring (mr)
single crochet (sc)
increase (inc)
invisible decrease (dec)
slip stitch (sl st)
double crochet (DC)
Half double crochet (HDC)

Pattern: How to crochet a Baby Jesus Doll?

Let’s start – Baby Jesus doll – Free Crochet Pattern

The head and body – Baby Jesus doll – Free Crochet Pattern

The head and body are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
We start at the top of the head.
Remember to stuff as you crochet.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and yarn in peach.

Round 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Round 2: [2 sc, 1 inc] x2. (8)
Round 3: [1 inc, 1 sc]x4. (12)
Rounds 4-5: 1 sc in all st. (12)
Round 6: [1 dec in the next st, 1 sc]x4. (8)

Place the eyes between Rounds 4 and 5, spaced by 1 stitch.

Round 7: [1 dec in the next st, 2 sc]x2. (6)

Fill the head.

Change for the white yarn.

Round 9: [6 inc]. (12)
Round 10: working in the back loops only: 1 sc in all st. (12)
Rounds 11-14: 1 sc in all st. (12)
Round 15: [1 dec in the next st, 1 sc]x4. (8)

Fill the body.

Close the body: Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loops of all 8 stitches and pull gently to close the opening. Secure the yarn and weave in the end.

The hat – Baby Jesus doll – Free Crochet Pattern

The hat is first worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.

With a 2.75 mm crochet hook and yarn in cream.

Round 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
Round 3: [1 inc in the next st, 1 sc]x6. (18)

We will now work in rows.

Row 4: 1 sc in the next 14 st . (14)
Rows 5 to 8: ch1, turn. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 14 st. (14)

Finish by a slst in the first sc of the row. Cut and secure the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Place the hat on the baby’s head and sew it to the front loops of Round 9, leaving the 4 st unworked in the front.

The Basket – Baby Jesus doll – Free Crochet Pattern

The basket is first worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.

With a 2.75 mm crochet hook and yarn in dark brown.

Round 1: ch 13. Starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 11 st, make 2 sc in the last. Now working on the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the next 11 ch. (24)
Round 2: [1 hdc, 2 hdc in the next st] x12. (36)
Round 3: working in the back loops only: [1 hdc in all st]. (36)
Round 4: [1 hdc in all st]. (36)

Change for the yellow yarn.

Round 5: [1 hdc in all st]. (36)

Finish by a slst in the first sc of the round. Cut and secure the yarn.
