Love Candle – Free Crochet Pattern

This sweet Love Candle is a tiny, cheerful crochet project full of charm 💕🕯️
With its cute little flame, embroidered details, and heart decoration, this mini candle is perfect for Valentine’s Day, handmade gifts, or simply spreading a little love.

This pattern is small and fun to make, but it does include embroidery and a few separate pieces, making it best suited for confident beginners and intermediate crocheters. Take your time, enjoy the details, and you’ll end up with an adorable crochet companion!

Love Candle – Free Crochet Pattern

Start Here:

  • Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.
  • The pattern is written using US terms.

Parts:

  • 1 candle
  • 1 flame
  • 1 heart

Finished Size:

Approx. 2.25 inches (5 cm) using light worsted yarn

Material:

  • Worsted yarn in cream and a small amount of pink for the cheeks
  • 2.75 mm (US C-2) crochet hook
  • 2.25 mm (US B-1) crochet hook (heart)
  • Embroidery thread in red for the heart
  • Embroidery thread in black, orange, and yellow for the flame
  • Cotton thread in black for the mouth
  • 2 black safety eyes (5 mm)
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Optional: fabric/hot glue

Abbreviations:

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • increase (inc)
  • invisible decrease (dec)
  • slip stitch (sl st)
  • double crochet (DC)
  • Half double crochet (HDC)

How to crochet a Love Candle?


Flame

  • Worked into a chain.

With a 2.25 mm (US B-1) crochet hook and Embroidery thread in yellow:

  • Round 1:
    ch 4. Working in the 2nd ch from the hook:
    1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc in the last ch;
    working on the opposite side of the chain: 1 sc, 1 sc.
    Join with 1 sl st in the first sc. 

Change to the orange embroidery thread:

  • Round 2:
    1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st (place a stitch marker in the first of these 2 sc),
    1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc.
    Join with 1 sl st in the first sc. 

Black Wick

Join black embroidery thread in the stitch marked with the stitch marker.

ch 2; working in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sl st.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Insert the yarn tail into the stitch of Round 2 where you joined the black thread, then use a tapestry needle to weave the yarn down through the center of the flame to the bottom of the wick.

Set aside for later.


Candle 

  • Worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Remember to stuff as you crochet.
  • We start at the top of the candle

With a 2.75 mm crochet and yarn in cream:

  • Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6) 
  • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 inc in the next st, 1 sc]x6. (18)
  • Round 4: working in the back loops only (BLO): [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Rounds 5-11: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Sew the flame to the top of the candle, between Rounds 1 and 2.

Place the safety eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, spaced by 2 stitches.
Using two strands of pink yarn, embroider small cheeks between Rounds 6 and 7, over one stitch, just below the eyes.
With black cotton thread, embroider a small mouth over Round 6.

Stuff the candle firmly.

  • Round 12:working inthe back loops only (BLO): [1 dec, 1 sc] x6. (12)
  • Round 13: [6 dec]. (6)

Fasten off and close the opening with a tapestry needle.

Heart

  • Worked into a chain.

With a 2.25 mm (US B-1) crochet hook and Embroidery thread in red:

  • Round 1: ch 2; working in the 2nd ch from the hook: 3 DC, 2 HDC, 1 DC (bottom tip), 2 HDC, 3 DC, ch 2;

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Insert the tail in the center of the heart (in the 2nd ch space).

Sew or glue the heart to the front of the candle, over Rounds 8–11.
