Crochet Applique – Ballerina Bear

Find here a free pattern to make an adorable ballerina bear appliqué.

Here is another appliqué that I designed specially for one of my followers in my facebook group. At the same time, I also decide to make a ballerina kitty. Both of them would be perfect to personalize a baby blanket!

Pattern: How to crochet a ballerina bear appliqué?

The body

The pattern starts by the shoes and legs that are made separately and joined together.

Left leg:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the light pink yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 3. (3)
  • Row 2: turn, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 2 st. (2)
  • Row 3: ch1, turn; 1 inc, 1 sc in the next st. (3)

Join and keep working with the brown yarn.

  • Row 4: ch1, turn; working in the back loop only: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Cut the pink yarn but leave a long tail as you will use it later to do the lace of the shoe.

  • Rows 5 to 10: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 3 st. (3)

Cut the brown yarn and yarn over.

With your tapestry needle and the long tail of pink yarn, make the lace of the shoes as shown in the pictures below.

Keep the left leg for later.

Right leg:

Stop working with the brown yarn, just the time to make the pink lace for this leg: with your tapestry needle and the long tail of pink yarn, make the lace of the shoes as shown in the pictures above.

Back to the brown again: do not cut the brown yarn. We are now going to join the legs together:

  • Row 11: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 3 st, ch 1. Now working on the left leg: 1 sc in the next 3 st. (7)
  • Rows 12 to 13: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)

Join and keep working with the light pink yarn.

  • Row 14: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)
  • Row 15: ch1, turn; working in the front loop only: 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)

  • Rows 16 to 19: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 7 st. (7)
  • Row 20: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 3 st, 1 dec. (5)

Join and keep working with the brown yarn.

  • Rows 21 to 22: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 5 st. (5)

Cut the pink yarn but leave a long tail as you will use it later around the neck.

  • Row 23: ch1, turn; 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 5 st, 1 inc. (7)
  • Row 24: ch1, turn; 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 7 st, 1 inc. (9)
  • Rows 25 to 29: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 9 st. (9)
  • Row 30: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 5 st, 1 dec. (7)
  • Row 31: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in the next st, 1 dec. (3)

Cut the brown yarn and yarn over.

Place the eyes between the rows 27 and 28 (spaced by 3 st) but do not attach them yet. If you are happy with their position, take them off and with your tapestry needle and the black pearl cotton, make 2 eyelashes for each eye. Put the eyes back and attach them.

Take the pink yarn (that you left) at the top of the dress and make it go behind the neck (between the rows 22 and 23) and back at the front again.

The ears (make 2)

Work in rounds. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the brown yarn.

  • Round 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring. (8)

Cut the yarn.

With your tapestry needle, sew the ears on each sides of the body.

The nose

Work in rounds. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the white yarn.

  • Round 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring. (8)

Cut the yarn and yarn over.
