Free Crochet Pattern: Chimpanzee Amigurumi
I had so much fun making this cute chimpanzee for a baby mobile! I am planning on making a chimpanzee family soon!

MATERIALS:
- 2 different yarns calling for 5,5 mm hook in dark brown and light brown
- Size 3.5 mm crochet hook
- 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
- Poly-Fil Fiberfill stuffing
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- Facultative: pipe cleaners (if you want the arms to be flexible)
ABBREVIATIONS:

What did I use?
Light worsted yarn in dark brown, 100% acrylic
I used « Stylecraft special aran» in Dark brown and light brown.
Let’s start!
Eyes (makes 2) :
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring. (4). Do not close the magic ring too tight as you will have to put a safety eye in.
Round 2: inc 4 times. (8)
sl st in the next st.
Leave a long tail for sewing and cut.
Place the safety eye in the middle of the magic ring and close tightly.
Nose:
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: ch 6. (6)
Round 2: starting in the 2nd ch fron the hook: 1 sc in the next 4 st, 2 sc in the last st. Now working on the other side of the chain: 1 sc in the next 4 st. (10)
sl st in the next st.
Leave a long tail for sewing and cut.
Ears (makes 2) :
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6).
Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)
sl st in the next st.

Arms (make 2) :
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring. (4)
Round 2: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc] x2. (6)
Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc] x3. (9)
Round 4: 1 sc in all st. (9)
Round 5: [1 sc in next st, 1 dec] x3. (6)
Change for the dark brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 6: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc] x2. (8)
Rounds 7 to 14: 1 sc in all st. (8)
sl st in the next st.
Leave a long tail for sewing and cut.
Body and Head :
We start at the bottom of the body and we finish by the head (all in one piece).
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the dark brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)
Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc] x6. (18)
Round 4: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc] x6. (24)
Round 5: 1 sc in all st. (24)
Round 6: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (30)
Round 7: 1 sc in all st. (30)
Round 8: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 dec in next st] x6. (24)
Rounds 9 to 14: 1 sc in all st. (24)
We are now going to attach the arms to the body.
Round 15: [1 sc in next 4 st, attach the first arm by working both in the 4 inside st of the arm and in the 4 next st of the body (the arm will be attached by 4 st – see pictures), 1 sc in next 8 st, attach the second arm by working in the 4 inside st of the arm and in the 4 next st of the body, 1 sc in next 4 st ]. (24)
Round 16: [1 sc in next 4 st, 1 sc in the next 4 st of the arm only – see pictures, 1 sc in next 8 st,1 sc in the next 4 st of the arm only – see pictures, 1 sc in next 4 st ]. (24)
Round 17: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 dec] x6. (18)
You can insert a pipe cleaner in the arms if you want them to be flexbile (see pictures below).
Round 18: [1 sc in next st, 1 dec] x6. (12)
Stuff the body.
Round 19: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc] x6. (18)
Round 20: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)
Round 21: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (30)
Rounds 22 to 26: 1 sc in all st. (30)
Round 27: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 dec] x6. (24)
Round 28: 1 sc in all st. (24)
Round 29: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 dec] x6. (18)
Place the eyes between Rows 27 and 28. Sew all around (I also did sew both eyes together to attach them).
Round 30: [1 sc in next st, 1 dec] x6. (12)
Stuff the head.
Round 31: [6 dec]. (6)
Close the head.
Attach the nose below the eyes.
Attach the ears to each side of the head.
Legs (make 2) :
Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Round 2: [1 inc in all st]. (12)
Round 3: 1 sc in all st. (12)
Round 4: [1 sc in next 2 st, 4 dec, 1 sc in next 2 st]. (8)
Round 5: 1 sc in all st. (8)
Change for the dark brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook
Round 6: 1 sc in all st. (8)
Rounds 7 to 17: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in the next st] x2. (10)
sl st in the next st.
Leave a long tail for sewing and cut.
Attach the legs to each side of the body.
Tail:
With the light brown yarn and the 3.5 mm hook.
Row 1 : ch 26. (26)
Row 2 : turn ; in 2nd ch from the hook : 1 sl st in each ch. (25)
Leave a long tail for sewing and cut.
If you make the monkey without the pants on, sew the tail directly to the body. If you make the party monkey (pattern coming soon), you will have to put the pant on before the sew the tail.
I apologize, I forgot to take pictures of the monkey with the tail before to put the pant on, but here are some pictures to show you how to sew the tail to the body.
