Crochet Pattern – Free Crochet Pattern Cow
Start Here:
Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.
The pattern is written using US terms. The design can be done with several sizes of yarn. I made it with worsted yarn (instructions in the pattern below) and chunky yarn (using a US-7 / 4.5 mm crochet hook).
The head is relatively weighty in comparison to the body. To address this, I opted to place 2 decorative glass gems at the rear of the body. This addition adds more stability to the body, ensuring that the cow can stand upright without toppling forward onto its head. Note: This is not recommended for babies or young children.
Important Note: When crafting this cow using chunky or fluffy yarn:
- I used 10 mm safety eyes when making the sheep with chunky yarn.
- Please refer to the pattern instructions provided below. However, instead of making 6 sc in a magic circle, ch 2 and make 6 sc in the second ch from the hook. This minor modification is recommended, as forming a magic circle with fluffy yarn can pose challenges.
- you will need a very small amount of black worsted yarn for the tail.
Size:
- 2.5 inches (5 cm) tall – 3 inches (7 cm) long with light worsted yarn
- 4 inches tall (12 cm) – 5 inches (11 cm) long with chunky yarn
Material:
- Yarn calling for a 5.5 mm hook in white, black, pink and cream.
- Size 2.75 mm crochet hook (B/2). You can use a larger crochet. It will work fine but your sheep will be slightly bigger.
- 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
- 2 decorative glass gems
- Stitch markers (if needed)
- Tapestry needle
- poly-fill
Abbreviations:
- chain (ch)
- magic ring (mr)
- single crochet (sc)
- increase (inc)
- invisible decrease (dec)
- slip stitch (sl st)
- half double crochet (hdc)
- double crochet (dc)
