Crochet Heart: Free Crochet Pattern

Finished Size

Approximately 2.5 inches (7 cm) tall when made with the indicated yarn.

Materials

  • Yarn calling for a 5.5 mm (US I-9) hook

  • 3.5 mm (US D-3) crochet hook

  • Poly-Fil fiberfill stuffing

  • Tapestry needle

For Hearts with Eyes (Optional)

Big Heart

  • Yarn calling for a US L-11 (8 mm) hook in the color of your choice

  • Small amount of pink yarn for the cheeks

  • Yarn calling for a US I-9 (5.5 mm) hook in black for the mouth

  • 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook

  • 2 black safety eyes (10 mm)

Small Heart

  • Yarn calling for a US I-9 (5.5 mm) hook in the color of your choice

  • Small amounts of pink yarn (cheeks) and black yarn (mouth)

  • 2.75 mm (US C-2) crochet hook

  • 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • sc = single crochet

  • inc = increase

  • dec = invisible decrease

  • mr = magic ring


Crochet Heart โ€“ Free Pattern

Work in continuous rounds. Do not turn unless stated.
Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round if needed.

Part A

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc 6 times (12 sc)
  • Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6 (18)
  • Rounds 4 to 6: 1 sc in all st (18)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
This piece is Part A of the heart.

Part B

Repeat Rounds 1โ€“6 exactly as for Part A.

Do not cut the yarn after Round 6.
This piece is Part B.

Joining the Heart

  • Round 7:
    Join Part A to Part B by crocheting 6 sc:

Insert your hook into one stitch of Part A (from the inside) and the next stitch of Part B. Make 1 sc.
Repeat this joining process for the next 5 stitches.

Parts A and B are now joined.

Continue working:

  • 1 sc in the remaining 12 stitches of Part B

  • 1 sc in the remaining 12 stitches of Part A

  • Round 8: [sc in next 2 st, dec in next st] x6 (18)
  • Round 9: sc in all st (18)

๐Ÿ‘‰ If adding eyes, place them between Rounds 6 and 7, spaced 3 stitches apart.

Begin stuffing with polyfill.

  • Round 10: [sc in next 4 st, dec in next st] x3 (15)
  • Round 11: sc in all st (15)
  • Round 12: [sc in next st, dec in next st] x5 (10)

Finish stuffing firmly.

Crochet heart: Free Pattern

  • Round 13: [dec in next st] x5 (5)

Cut the yarn. Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Secure and weave in ends.

Finishing

If you made a heart with eyes:

  • Embroider two small cheeks using pink yarn

  • Add a simple mouth using black yarn
