Pattern: How to crochet a No-sew Bat?

Let’s start – No-sew Crochet Bat

The body – No-sew Crochet Bat

  • The bat is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Remember to stuff as you crochet.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and black yarn (or with a bigger hook of your choice)

    • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6) – NB: if you work with plush yarn: ch2; make 6 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. (6)
    • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
    • Round 3: [1 inc in the next st, 1 sc]x6. (18)
    • Rounds 4-9: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Place the eyes between Rounds 7 and 8, spaced by 2 st.

With your tapestry needle, make:

  • the side of the eyes with 2 strands of white pearl cotton
  • a little nose with some pink yarn, between Rounds 6 and 7, over 1 stitch.

Keep working on the body:

  • Round 10: [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Round 11: [1 dec, 1 sc]x6. (12)

Fill the body with polyfill.

  • Round 12: [6 dec]. (6)

Cut the yarn, close the body, and fasten off.

The ears – No-sew Crochet Bat

The ears are placed over Rounds 10 and 11.

Insert your crochet hook under Round 11 on the side of the head (see pictures)

  • Row 1: ch 2. (2)
  • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 6 sc. (6)

Insert the tail ends of the yarn inside the body with a tapestry needle and fasten off.

Do the same thing for the 2nd ear (see pictures below)

Cut the yarn, and attach the ears to the body by inserting the end of the yarn between Rounds 11 and 12.

I secured the ears with a knot that I hid in the body.

The wings – No-sew Crochet Bat

The tail is placed between Rounds 4 and 5.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and black yarn (or with a bigger hook of your choice)

Join the yarn by placing your crochet hook under a stitch between Rounds 7 and 8 on the side of the body (about 3 stitches away from the eye – see pictures below to help you: on the left side: insert hook from eye to back; on the right side: insert hook from back to eye).

    • Row 1: ch 6. (6)
    • Row 2: starting in the second ch from the hook: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 dc. (5)

Cut the yarn, attach the wings to the body by inserting the end of the yarn between Rounds 5 and 6.

Do the same thing for the 2nd wing (see pictures below)

Secure the wings as you previously did for the ears.
