- Worsted yarn in yellow and orange
- 2.75 mm (B/2) crochet hook
- 2 black safety eyes (7.5 mm)
- Stitch markers (if needed)
- Tapestry needle
- Polyfill stuffing

Pattern: How to crochet a Chick Appliqué?
Head
- Worked in continuous rounds.
With yellow yarn:
- Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
- Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)
- Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)
- Round 4: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st, 1 sc in next st ] x6. (24)
- Round 5: [1 inc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 st] x6. (30)
Insert safety eyes between Rounds 2 and 3, spaced by 4 stitches and centered on the face.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Beak
- Worked in rows.
With orange yarn:
- Row 1: ch 4.
- Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc, 1 HDC, 1 sc. (3)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Sew the beak below the eyes, with Row 2 at the top.
Body
- Worked flat in rows.
With yellow yarn:
- Row 1: ch 7.
- Row 2: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 6 ch. (6)
- Row 3: ch1, turn; 1 inc, 1 sc in the next 4 st, 1 inc. (8)
- Rows 4 to 10: ch1, turn; 1 sc in all st. (8)
- Row 11: ch1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 4 st, 1 dec. (6)
- Rows 12 to 13: ch1, turn; 1 sc in all st. (6)
- Row 14: ch1, turn; 1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 dec, 1 sc in the next 2 st. (5)
- Row 15: ch1, turn; 1 sc in all st. (5)
👉 Do not turn.
Starting at one corner, sc evenly around the entire body (approx. 30–34 stitches).
Do not crochet too tightly; you may use a larger hook if desired.
Fasten off.
Sew the head to the top of the body. You can adjust the placement to make the chick taller or shorter.
Wings
You may choose between two versions of the wings. Both work well—use the one you prefer.

With yellow yarn:
Right Wing
- Row 1: ch 2. (2)

Sew the wings to each side of the body.
Feet (make 2).

With orange yarn:
