Crochet Applique – Elephant

Find here a free Crochet Pattern Elephant Applique

After the giraffe and the lions’ appliques, here is a crochet appliqué for an adorable elephant! You can use them to personalize a crochet blanket, a crochet bag or even a crochet hat!  I specially designed it because someone in my Facebook group asked me if I could make one, so here it is!

Don’t forget to join my Facebook group HERE,  you can ask your questions, and share your finished projects. I will regularly ask you what pattern you would like to see next (or you can even suggest something even if I am not asking!).

I hope you will enjoy and understand the pattern. If you have any questions, please write to me, I will try my best to help you. And I would love to see your work! Don’t forget to share your finished projects using the hashtag #natalinacraft. I love seeing your incredible work!

Crochet Pattern Elephant Applique

Crochet Pattern Elephant Applique

Important update:

This pattern can be made with fluffy yarn. I used Premier Parfait Chunky (Super bulky yarn calling for a US 11 or 8 mm crochet hook). I used a US 7 or 4.5 mm crochet hook. I would suggest replacing the first round of the circles (Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)) by Round 1: ch 2, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: make 6 sc. (6). And then keep working round 2 as the pattern says.

  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern: How to crochet an Elephant applique?

The head – Crochet Pattern Elephant Applique

Work in rounds, do not turn unless specified. If needed, use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the grey yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)
  • Round 4: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)
  • Round 5: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (30)

Cut the yarn, fasten off.

The eyes should be between rounds 2 and 3, spaced by 3 st BUT I would suggest to maybe wait to sew the ears to the head before to fix them (you may want to fix them through the ears too depending on the design of your safety eyes).

With the black pearl cotton and your tapestry needle, make the eyebrows between Rounds 4 and 5, over 2 st.

The ears (make 2) – Crochet Pattern Elephant Applique

The left ear:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the blue yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 inc in all st]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 sc in the next st, 1 inc in the next st] x6. (18)

Change for the grey yarn.

  • Round 4: [1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 inc in the next st] x6. (24)
  • Round 5: [1 sc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next 2 st, 1 sc in the next 8 st, 2 hdc in the next 4 st, 1 sc in the next 6 st]. (30)

Cut the yarn, fasten off.

The 4 dc you made in the last round are at the bottom of the ear and the 8 hdc are at the top.

The right ear:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and the blue yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 inc in all st]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 sc in the next st, 1 inc in the next st] x6. (18)

Change for the grey yarn.

  • Round 4: [1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 inc in the next st] x6. (24)
  • Round 5: [1 sc in the next 6 st, 2 hdc in the next 4 st, 1 sc in the next 8 st, 2 dc in the next 2 st, 1 sc in the next 4 st]. (30)

Cut the yarn, fasten off.

With your tapestry needle, sew the ears behind the head (the sides of the head should be in the middle of your magic rings).

You can now fix the safety eyes.

I COUNTED LEGS ON OTHER DESIGNS AND OTHER SHOULD ALSO~

Many have too many legs BUT thank YOU for actually understanding animals have 4 legs and when sitting they do not grow one!
Just double check people before you place them on your projects so we have he correct number of parts~
