Pattern: How to crochet a Gingerbread man applique?
I have made a boy and a girl version. I used the exact same pattern. The only differences are the bow (around the neck for the boy / on the head for the girl), the eyelashes (for the girl only), and the color of the cheeks (red for the boy/pink for the girl).

- at the end of the first arm, make 2 sc in the 2 st at the top of the arm.
- miss 2 st below the first arm (at the corner with the body)

The Face – Crochet pattern Gingerbread Man Appliqué
Place the eyes between Rows 21 and 22, spaced by 2 st. (if you want to make eyelashes for the girl, do not fix them yet and make them with your tapestry needle and the black thread as shown in the picture below).
With your tapestry needle and the black thread, make the mouth over rows 19 and 20.
Take a small amount of red or pink yarn to make the cheeks.
The Buttons
If you want to use safety eyes (6 mm) as buttons, place three of them on the body.
You can also make buttons using yarn as follow: with a 3 mm hook, start 5 sc in a magic ring. (5). Make 1 sl st in the next st, cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing.
The Bow
With a 3.5 mm crochet and the red yarn
- ch 6. (6)
- Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 5 ch. (5)
- Row 2: ch1, turn;1 sc in the next 5 ch. (5)
You now have to wrap the yarn a few times in the center of the bow (see picture below). Make sure the yarn is secured and sew the bow to the neck of the gingerbread man (or over the head if you are making the girl).

So cute I would to make all of the these
Thank you!
Super cute and quick to work up. However, I’m having a very hard time with mine staying flat? Any tips to help this?
Thank you. If you sew them on something, it should stay flat. Or if you want to use it as an ornament, I would suggest to make another one (without eyes,…) for the back and sew both pieces together.
This pattern looks so cute I am going to give it a try I have to buy some yarn for the body of the gingerbread man.
Thank you very much! Let me know how it goes
