Crochet Pattern Pocket Unicorn

Start Here:

• Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.
• The pattern is written using US terms.

Parts:

• Body (leg/body/head in one piece)
• 2 ears
• 2 arms
• 1 muzzle
• 1 horn
• mane (3 strands)
• tail (1 strand)

Finished Size

Approx. 2.25 inches (6 cm)

Material:

• Worsted yarn in white and pink
• Crochet thread calling for a 1.5 mm hook in gold
• Size 2.75 mm crochet hook (main body)
• Size 1.5 mm crochet hook for the horn.
• 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
• Stitch markers (if needed)
• Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

• chain (ch)
• magic ring (mr)
• single crochet (sc)
• increase (inc)
• invisible decrease (dec)
• slip stitch (sl st)
• half double crochet (hdc)
• double crochet (dc)

How to crochet a pocket unicorn?

Legs (make 2)

• Worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
• Stuff lightly.

Leg 1:

With pink yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
• Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Change to white yarn.

• Round 3: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Stuff lightly.

Fasten off and set aside.

Leg 2:

With pink yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
• Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Change to white yarn.

• Round 3: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Stuff lightly.
Do not fasten off.

Body and Head

• The body and head are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
• Remember to stuff your work as you crochet.

Continue with white yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.

Joining the Legs

Place both legs next to each other, facing the same direction.

• Round 4:
  From Leg 2, sc around Leg 1 (6 sc), then sc around Leg 2 (6 sc). (12)

Body

• Rounds 5-8: [1 sc in all st]. (12)
• Round 9: [1 sc, 1 dec] x4. (8)

Head

• Round 10: [8 inc]. (16)
• Rounds 11-14: [1 sc in all st]. (16)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 12 and 13, spaced by 2 stitches.

• Round 15: [8 dec]. (8)

Stuff the head firmly.
Close the opening with a tapestry needle and fasten off.

Arms (make 2) 

• Worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.

With pink yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• Round 1: 5 sc in a magic ring. (5)

Change to white yarn:

• Rounds 2-3: [1 sc in all st]. (5)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew arms to the sides of the body, just below the head.

Muzzle 

• Worked in rows.

With white yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• • Row 1: ch 4. 
  • Row 2: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook:
    1 sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in last ch,
    working on the other side of the chain: 1 sc in next 2 ch. (6)
  • Row 3: 1 sc in the next 6 st. (6)

Sl st in next st.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew the muzzle below the eyes.

Ears (make 2) 

• Worked in rows.

With white yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• • Row 1: ch 4. (4)
  • Row 2: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook:
    1 sc in next ch, 2 hdc in next ch, 1 sl st in last ch. (4)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew ears to the top of the head.

Horn 

• Worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker if needed.

With gold thread and a 1.5 mm hook:

• Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
• Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)
• Round 3: [1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 inc]. (8)
• Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew the horn centered above the eyes.

Mane (3 strands)

• Worked in rows.

With pink yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• • Row 1: ch 15. 
  • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 14 ch. (14)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Make three identical strands.
Attach them evenly along the back of the head.

Tail 

• Worked in rows.

With pink yarn and a 2.75 mm hook:

• • Row 1: ch 11. 
  • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 10 ch. (10)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Sew tail to the back of the body.
