Crochet Pattern Pocket Unicorn

Start Here:

Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.

The pattern is written using US terms.

This appliqué is made of the following parts:

  • Body (leg/body/head in one piece)
  • 2 ears
  • 2 arms
  • 1 muzzle
  • 1 horn
  • mane (made of 3 strands)
  • tail (made of 1 strand)

Size:

  • 2.25 inches (6 cm)

Material:

  • Yarn calling for a 5.5 mm hook in white and pink
  • Crochet thread calling for 1.5 mm hook in gold
  • Size 2.75 mm crochet hook. (a larger hook can be used, your pocket bear will only be slightly bigger)
  • Size 1.5 mm crochet hook for the horn.
  • 2 black safety eyes (6 mm)
  • Stitch markers (if needed)
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • increase (inc)
  • invisible decrease (dec)
  • slip stitch (sl st)
  • half double crochet (hdc)
  • double crochet (dc)

Pattern: How to crochet a pocket unicorn?


The legs – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.
  • The legs are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Remember to stuff the legs as you crochet.

– Leg 1:

With a 2.75 mm crochet and pink yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Change for the white yarn.

  • Round 3: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Cut the yarn and fasten off. Keep Leg 1 for later.

– Leg 2:

With a 2.75 mm crochet and pink yarn.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Change for the white yarn.

  • Round 3: [1 sc in all st]. (6)

Fill the leg. Do not cut the yarn. In the next round, we will join both legs and keep working on the body and the head.


The body and head – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.

  • The body and head are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Remember to stuff your work as you crochet.

Keep working with a 2.5 mm crochet and white yarn.

In the next round, we will join both legs:

  • Round 4: after the last round of leg 2: keep working now in Leg 1: 6 sc; now in Leg 2 again: 6 sc. (12)
  • Rounds 5-8: [1 sc in all st]. (12)
  • Round 9: [1 sc, 1 dec] x4. (8)

  • Round 10: [8 inc]. (16)
  • Rounds 11-14: [1 sc in all st]. (16)

Place the eyes between rounds 12 and 13, space by 2 stitches.

  • Round 15: [8 dec]. (8)

Fill and close the head with your tapestry needle.


The arms (make 2) – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.

  • The arms are worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and pink yarn.

  • Round 1: start 5 sc in a magic ring. (5)

Change for the white yarn.

  • Rounds 2-3: [1 sc in all st]. (5)

Cut the yarn (leave a long tail for sewing).

Sew the arms to the body.


The muzzle – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.
  • The muzzle is worked in rows.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and white yarn.

    • Row 1: ch 4. (4)
    • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 2 ch, 2 sc in the last ch. Now working on the other side of the ch: 1 sc in the next 2 ch. (6)
    • Row 3: 1 sc in the next 6 st. (6)
    • make a sl st in the next st

Cut the yarn, and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the muzzle to the head below the eyes.


The ears (make 2) – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.

  • The ears are worked in rows.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and white yarn.

    • Row 1: ch 4. (4)
    • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next ch, 2 hdc in the next ch, 1 sl st in the last ch. (4)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the ears at the top of the head.


The Horn – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.

  • The horn is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.

With a 1.5 mm crochet and the gold thread.

  • Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [1 sc in all st]. (6)
  • Round 3: [1 sc in the next 2 st, 1 inc]. (8)
  • Round 4: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the horn to the front of the head.


The mane – Crochet Pocket Unicorn.

  • The mane is worked in rows.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and pink yarn.

    • Row 1: ch 15. (15)
    • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 14 ch. (14)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing. Make 2 more (so you will have a total of 3 strands for the mane).

Sew the strands to the head (see pictures below).

The tail – Crochet Pattern Pocket Unicorn.

  • The tail is worked in rows.

With a 2.75 mm crochet and pink yarn.

    • Row 1: ch 11. (11)
    • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: 1 sc in the next 10 ch. (10)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the tail to the back of the body.
