Crochet Pattern Mini Panda

Start Here:

  • Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.
  • The pattern is written using US terms.
  • The panda is worked in continuous rounds, unless stated otherwise.
  • Use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of each round.
  • Stuff firmly but do not overstuff.

Material:

  • Worsted in black and white
  • Size 3.5 mm crochet hook.
  • 2 black safety eyes (7.5 mm)
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyfill stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • chain (ch)
  • magic ring (mr)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • increase (inc)
  • invisible decrease (dec)
  • slip stitch (sl st)
  • half double crochet (hdc)
  • double crochet (dc)

How to crochet a Mini Panda?


Eyes’ Patches (make 2) 

With a 3.5 mm crochet and black yarn.

  • Row 1: ch 3. 
  • Row 2: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: [(1 sc, 3 sc in the last ch). Working on the other side of the ch: 1sc]. (5)
  • Row 3: 1 sl st in the next st (the 1st sc of Row 2).

Fasten off.
Insert the safety eye at the top of the eye patch (opposite the side with 3 sc), but do not secure the backing yet.
Set aside for later.


Legs and Body

We start with the legs and continue directly into the body and head.

Leg 1:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and black yarn.

  • Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [2 sc, 1 inc] x2. (8)
  • Rounds 3-5: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Fasten off.
Stuff the leg firmly and set aside.

Leg 2:

With a 3.5 mm crochet and black yarn.

  • Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
  • Round 2: [2 sc, 1 inc] x2. (8)
  • Rounds 3-5: [1 sc in all st]. (8)

Joining the Legs

  • Round 6:
    • On Leg 2: 2 sc, ch 2.
    • Insert the hook into any stitch of Leg 1 and work 8 sc around Leg 1.
    • Work 2 sc into the chain-2 space.
    • Continue on Leg 2 with 6 sc. (20)
  • Round 7: [1 sc in all st]. (20)

Stuff the legs and begin stuffing the body as you work.

Body

Change to white yarn.

  • Rounds 8-12: [1 sc in all st]. (20)

Change to black yarn.

  • Rounds 13-14: [1 sc in all st]. (20)
  • Round 15: [8 sc, 1 dec] x2. (18)
  • Round 16: [1 sc, 1 dec] x6. (12)

Head

Change to white yarn.

Face Placement

  • Place the safety eyes and the eye patches between Rounds 21 and 22, with 3 stitches between them.
  • Secure the safety eyes.
  • Using black yarn, embroider a small nose between Rounds 19 and 20.

Continue stuffing the head firmly.
