Crochet Pattern – No-sew Crochet Corn

Start Here:

Please read the whole pattern properly before starting.

The pattern is written using US terms.

Pattern Includes

  • 1 body
  • 2 leaves
  • Hair (corn silk)

Finished Size

  • 1.25 inches (3 cm) using light worsted yarn
  • 2.5 inches (7 cm) using plush yarn

Materials

  • Yarn calling for a US I-9 / 5.5 mm hook in yellow, green, and white
    OR
    Yarn calling for a US L-11 / 8 mm hook in yellow, green, and white
  • US C-2 / 2.75 mm hook (for worsted yarn)
    OR
    US 7 / 4.5 mm hook (for plush yarn)  
  • 2 black safety eyes
    • 6 mm (worsted yarn)
    • 9 mm (plush yarn)
    • Small amount of black cotton thread (size 8) or black yarn (for the smile)
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • ch – chain
  • mr – magic ring
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase
  • dec – invisible decrease
  • sl st – slip stitch


How to Crochet a No-Sew Corn


The body

  • The body is worked in continuous rounds (as a spiral). Use a stitch marker if needed.
  • Stuff as you go.

With green yarn and a 2.75 mm hook
(or a larger hook if preferred):

  • Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6) – Plush yarn option: ch 2, 6 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (6)
  • Round 2: [6 inc]. (12)
  • Round 3: [1 inc in the next st, 1 sc]x6. (18)
  • Rounds 4-5: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Change to yellow yarn:

  • Round 6: Working in the back loop only (BLO): [1 sc in all st]. (18)
  • Rounds 7-10: [1 sc in all st]. (18)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 8 and 9, spaced by 2 stitches.

  • Round 11: [1 dec, 1 sc]x6. (12)

Stuff firmly.

  • Round 12: [6 dec]. (6)

Fasten off and close the opening.

With black thread or yarn, embroider a small smile over Round 7.

No-sew Crochet Corn

Leaves 

  • The leaves are worked directly onto the body in rows.

Attach the leaves to Round 5, working over 6 stitches each, spaced 5 stitches apart at the front of the corn.
Use stitch markers to help with placement.

Right Leaf (when facing the corn)

Work from the back toward the front of the body.

  • Row 1: Join green yarn. Working in front loops only, 1 sc in the same stitch and the next 5 stitches. (6)
  • Row 2: ch 1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 2, 1 dec. (4)
  • Row 3: ch 1, turn; 2 dec. (2)
  • Row 4: ch 1, turn; 1 dec. (1)

Fasten off.

 

Left Leaf (when facing the corn)

Work from the front toward the back of the body.

  • Row 1: Join green yarn. Working in front loops only, 1 sc in the same stitch and the next 5 stitches. (6)
  • Row 2: ch 1, turn; 1 dec, 1 sc in next 2, 1 dec. (4)
  • Row 3: ch 1, turn; 2 dec. (2)
  • Row 4: ch 1, turn; 1 dec. (1)

Fasten off.


Hair (Silk corn)

Cut one strand of white yarn approximately 5.5 in / 14 cm long.

Insert your hook at the top center of the corn, pull the yarn through folded in half, then pull the ends through the loop and tighten.
Separate the strands and trim to your desired length.
