Crochet ice cream: Make your own ice cream cone

Find here a free ice cream Crochet Pattern

My son has a new obsession with ice cream and ice cream trucks. So I decided to make him a crochet ice cream crochet game! Select your crochet cone, choose your flavor (s), add a topping, and your crochet ice cream is ready! It is a nice game to develop motor skills and learn colors. The number of combinations is unlimited. It is also a perfect crochet pattern if you have some leftovers of yarn and you do not know what to do with it!

Don’t forget to join my facebook group,  you can ask your questions, and share your finished projects. I will regularly ask you what pattern you would like to see next (or you can even suggest something even if I am not asking!).

Please, give me some feedback! Let me know if you see any mistakes or things that you do not understand. Or tell me if you have some suggestions for my pattern.

Round shape flavors:

With the color of your choice and the 3.5 mm hook

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)

Round 3: [sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)

Round 4: [sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)

[sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x2

Insert 1 magnet of 0.75 in / 1.9 cm in the middle. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS STEP! DO NOT INSERT THE MAGNET IN THE WRONG WAY. You want to make sure that the base of your flavor will stick to the top of your cone. Double check it will stick before to continue.

[sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x3. (30)

Cut the yarn and sew in the end. We will attach it to the base of the flavor later.

Let’s now work on the top of the flavor. I also add a magnet at the top to be able to add more flavors to it and make a bigger ice-cream.

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)

Round 3: [sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)

Insert 1 magnet of 0.5 in / 1.2 cm in the middle. ONCE AGAIN BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS STEP! DO NOT INSERT THE MAGNET IN THE WRONG WAY. You want to make sure that the top of your flavor will stick to the base of another flavor. Use the base that you just made to check it is in the right way. Double check before to continue.

[sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x3. (24)

Round 5: [sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (30)

Round 13: [sc in next 4 st, 1 dec in next st] x6. (30)

Rounds 14 to 16: 1 sc in all st. (30)

Round 17: Insert your hook in the next st AND in 1 st of your other circle (it does not matter which st. Make sure it is in the right way). Make 1 sc through both st (see pictures below). For the entire round, we will keep working on the stitches of both circles as we just did. 1 sc in all the remaining st. (30)

Round 18: 1 sc in all st. (30)

Cut the yarn and sew in the end.

Pointed shape flavors/topping – Ice cream Crochet Pattern

They can be used either as flavors or as topping on a round-shape flavor.

First, we will make the bottom part of the flavors with the magnet:

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

Round 2: inc 6 times. (12)

Round 3: [sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)

Round 4: [sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)

Cut the yarn and sew in the end. Save it for later.

We will make another one but this time, we will not cut the yarn.

Round 3: [sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)

Round 4: [sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)

Round 5: Insert your hook in the next st AND in 1 st of your other circle (it does not matter which st.). Make 1 sc through both st (see pictures below). For the entire round, we will keep working on the stitches of both circles as we just did.

Double check it will stick before continuing.

[sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x3. (30)

Cut the yarn and sew in the end. We will attach it to the base of the flavor later.

Let’s now work on the top of the flavor.

Round 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

Round 2: 1 sc in all st. (6)

Round 3: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x3. (9)

Round 4: 1 sc in all st. (9)

Round 5: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x3. (12)

Round 6: 1 sc in all st. (12)

Round 7: [1 sc in next st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (18)

Round 8: in back loop only: [1 sc in next 2 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (24)

Rounds 9 to 11: 1 sc in all st. (24)

Round 15: [1 sc in next 4 st, 1 dec in next st] x6. (30)

Round 16: 1 sc in all st. (30)

If you want to add some sparkles, I would suggest you to do it now. Take the tapestry needle, the yarn(s) of your choice and make some little spot at different places.

Stuff the flavor (do not put too much filling as you want to be able to push the base slightly in the inside).

Make as many flavors as you want! Be original, mix different colors, add some sparkling!

  1. Did u have trouble with the magnets not being strong enough? I am using 2 .75magnets for each piece

    1. Hi, mine were definitely strong enough but I know some people who are having trouble to find strong enough magnets. Are you in the USA?

    2. Magnet Problems too! Tried multiple magnets in the bigger size, even used crochet cotton for a thinner fabric on the bottoms of the ice cream, but still no go! Great pattern, easy to follow, LOVE the concept but just is not working for me either. I will still use the pattern, make more cones with various toppings for the kiddos to play with, by stitching all on so they will stay. Then make some more “Ice Cream” and crochet a couple bowls for them! Hey ice cream for the whole family right! Thanks for the pattern, the young ones will love it!

      1. I am so sorry you couldn’t find the right magnets. It looks indeed like you are not the only one to have this problem. I was thinking to re-do this pattern and using something else instead of the magnets. I am glad you enjoyed the pattern anyway!

  2. Hello thanks for such a cute pattern! I’m on the white “soft” ice cream scoop on the upper part. In R12 you start off w 24 sts. & it says there’ll be a total of 36 sts at end of the Round but that’s incorrect. That sequence is only done 8 times not 9. (24 divided by 3=8) therefore total sts should be 32 not 36. This of course changes all totals so the next round leaves 2 sts, then all following rounds don’t work.

    1. Hi! You are totally right! I just updated the pattern and I am sorry for this mistake.
      It should be as follow:
Rounds 9 to 11: 1 sc in all st. (24)
Round 12: in back loop only: [1 sc in next 3 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (30)
Round 13: [1 sc in next 4 st, 1 inc in next st] x6. (36)
Round 14: 1 sc in all st. (36)
      Thank you!

  3. I’m so looking forward to work on this project. I was wondering, can I use 1.9 cm magnets for all?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi, I am so sorry for my late reply, I had to take a break from my blog for a while. I think 1.9 cm magnets should fit in.

  4. Hallo!
    Die Anleitung ist super.
Zu den Magneten – ich habe Magneten für die Pinnwand genommen, die sind super stark und halten gut obwohl sie sehr lein sind.
